Salmonfest is deeply saddened and disappointed to announce that the 2020 festival will be rescheduled for August 6th-8th, 2021. As a festival built around fish, love, and music, we try our hardest to think about everyone involved, especially the residents of Alaska, when making decisions. We do not believe that it is possible to have the festival as usual and will continue to work hard to be able to bring you the best 10 year anniversary festival yet in 2021.
We apologize to the people of Ninilchik and our Salmonfest family including bands, vendors, staff, and volunteers for creating worries that the 2020 festival would proceed as normal.
Communities outside of Alaska and the country who have opened are experiencing spikes in new cases, or second waves. While there are encouraging factors such as our location and small number of positive cases, there are many other considerations. While restrictions are lifting, social distancing might be the last recommendation to be waived. Unfortunately there are a lot of ‘ ifs’ to consider which makes planning difficult.
We will be entering into discussions with our local health department about the possibility of a smaller gathering this summer if changing circumstances allow for that. There will still be a survey being sent out to all those who have provided their emails, as well as those on our email list. We’d love your suggestions and ideas.
Thank you all for being part of the Salmonfest family, we look forward to when we will all be able to gather in person again in the future. Sending our love to all of you in these trying times.
